Did you know that 95 million photos and videos are shared on Instagram every day? If you want your photos to stand out from the crowd sometimes, you need to get creative.

Are you ready to learn how to change the color of an image in photoshop? Keep reading for our photoshop tips.

Hue/Saturation Tool

The first way to change the color is with the hue/saturation tool. The first thing you need to do is select the area or object in the photo that you want to work on.

The quick selection works well. Next, go to “Image” from there, you will go to “Adjustments” and then “Hue/Saturation.” If all that sounds too complicated, you can also use Ctrl + U on your keyboard.

You will see a window pop up, have some fun playing with the settings. Hue will allow you to change the color. Saturation can change the item from saturated to black and white. Lightness allows you to make the object darker or lighter.

Once you are satisfied with the color, hit “OK.”

Replace Color Tool

Your next option for changing the color of an image in Photoshop is the “Replace Color Tool.” You’re going to start by opening your image in Photoshop.

Then go to Image > Adjustments> Replace Color. Use your eyedropper tool to choose the color you want to change.

This will change the color in the photo. If you want to add areas, you can choose “add to sample” or from your keyboard, use Shift + left click.

If you want to remove areas, choose “Subtract from Sample,” or Alt + left click on the area.

Once you’ve selected the areas you want to change, use the saturation, hue, and lightness options to achieve the desired results. Ensure that your preview option has a checkmark so you can see the changes as you make them.

Click “OK” when you’re happy with what you have.

Color Replacement Tool

Our final option is the color replacement tool. While the name sounds similar, it is different from the previous option. After you open your photo, choose “Color Replacement Tool.”

Next, choose your mode; for this, you want to choose “Color.” You can choose your eyedropper tool as well.

“Continuous” will continuously sample the color as you move the brush tool. “Sample Once” changes the color only in the area you click on with that color.

“Background Color” will only replace colors that match the color you chose as the background swatch. If you’re wanting to change your background drastically, you can also consider using a photo background remover

Other settings you might want to adjust include “Limit” and “Tolerance. Limit determines how your brush behaves.

Tolerance dictates how accurately the color needs to match the sampled color to get replaced. Our recommendation is to spend some time playing with these settings to really get to know them.

Once you set your options, click and drag over the area where you want to change the color. Choose your color by clicking on the front square at the bottom of the toolbar.
